All atoms in the air and in the desert ...

There are plenty to see in this area ranging from waterfalls to watching horses. This is also a good spot for photographers. You must be wandering what place is this.. ..

Ellidalur is the name, there is a river that runs through and it is called Ellidaár which is a popular salmon river. besides the salmon in the river, Ellidalur is popular among those who love nature. There are hundreds of plants that can be found here.

These plant causes sever itchiness when it touches the skin, I need to find out the name.

First summer trip for this year was at the west coast of Iceland, a lake named Hitarvatn( which means bottomless lake). Roughly about 120 km from Reykjavik, this lake is popular among fishermen.

What I like about going here is the journey through amazing landscapes, from mountain to lava and sandy area to green fields.

I don't like winter and
I think many out there are feelng the same. Some look forward to snowfalls and some prefer the rain than the snow. The sun sets much earlier everyday utill winter solstice. I dislike the darkness and I thank God for Christmas lights decorations.

Berry Picking...again

Berry picking season for this year, we went to the same spot as before, away from heavy traffics. The children are a year older so it was kind of easier for them to climb and walk the lava cracks. It is always fun and it is never enough. This is the only time where we in Iceland can enjoy berries free. Imported berries are so very expansive to be enjoyed on daily basis.

Summer is at its peak. Natures marathon is stagnant. There has been very good warm sunny days in Reykjavik and most areas in Iceland. Those who are white are getting tanned and those who are brown.... getting "lebih legam" and berbelang belang macam zebra.
It is good to be here when, going abroad is too expensive.Last week we had price hike ... . a litter of petrol cost almost One British pound. Food prices goes up as well...... where is the end?

It is looking yellow everywhere the head turns. It is not true that Iceland is full of ice. There are plants, insect and other animals..beside human. When it is summer and the sun it shining bright.. the plants and insects would run their own marathon. Right now it is mostly yellow flowers, from dandelions to buttercups and others.

This butterfly is a common stranggler here in Iceland. It´s other name is The Painted Lady, Thistle butterfly and Cosmopolite.

While walking along a busy road one sunny morning, we spotted this beauty. It is big to compare to the normal ones in Iceland.

Summer is really here, Every living thing is smiling and enjoying the warmth of the sun. The past few days has been lovely. Reykjavik was heated up to around 18°C. Now nothing can stop us from enjoying our summer. ..........

Here is one of the picture I took today(local time). This is a weed called clotsfoot. It is one of the few plants to bloom during spring, The leaves will only appear after the flowers are fully bloomed.

Trip: Malaysia

Melaka, I don't mind making Melaka my second home. There are so much to see in just a few kilometers or meters apart. This is a statement for one who only visited Melaka. Would Melaka be a good place to live in?

This was taken during my visit to Melaka. By the Melakan river.

I like Malaysia for its the country where I was born. My childhood was the best in "my world". I remember those days where we did not have to worry much about our safety. We would explore our world from swamps to drain looking for fish, grasshoppers and tiny worms. My parents allowed us to be children. Our house was with no grill´s nor gates. There were no tuition or extra classes.. we only had school and school work to do. it was so stress free. I really enjoyed "my world" at that time.

Malaysia now changed a lot. There are too many things going on, too many people, too many roads, too much of traffic..too much.................. that I don´t even feel safe anymore.

But then, Malaysia... you will always be in my heart.

On our way to Kelantan via Cameron Higlands. We made a stop to buy some "petai". They were sold by the Orang asli's of Cameron Highlands. Permission was given to take his pictures. Our next stop was for food. I had to snap a picture of this couple..

The restaurant was clean but there were house flies flying around and disturbing the peace.

Followed by a stop by the Boh tea Plantation. A teashop nearby.

This was what we saw in the morning from the hotel's window, The Kelantan river.

Few days ago we had some snow fall which lasted for about a day. The snow covered almost everything and it was so beautiful.

How things are

The other day, I craved to eat fried Asian vegetables. I hurried later on to two of the few Asian grocery store down town Reykjavik. Disappointed I was. There were not many left.. I could stock up some galangal and dried chili.
I saw some fruits like rambutans and some other I do not recall. Although my last bite of rambutan was about two years ago, I stop myself from buying the packet of rambutan. It was so expansive. Yes.. everything has become more expensive since the recession started.
I think , come summer I am going to try out planting some sayur sawi at home. Also make my own bean sprout. My ginger seems to be living again also part of kesum is living. I am quite happy with that because I don't have to buy a whole bunch just to take few sprig for use. I have a pot of turmeric about 2 years old, they are sick looking due to lack of sun during winter.

Unemployment rate increased by 75 percent between October and November last year. The rate is expected to increase to 5.7 percent this year. We were told to expect another round of recession in march or April. How is it going to be...?

We have been enjoying sort of good weather despite the rain. In few days time, it's going to be freezing cold again. The city has been covered with quite thick fog for many days. Fog, rain, gloomy weather and gloomy economy, a perfect cocktail for depression.

Winter Solstice in Iceland falls on 21st of December. It is the shortest day in the year where the sun rises around 1130 and sets around 1530pm. We in Reykjavik were lucky for there were not too many clouds so we could really enjoy the maximum of the sunshine.
Yes, winter can be quite depressing due to shorter daylight.

I took this picture at around 1500, the sun was starting to set.

It has been snowing a lot here lately. I don't really like snow, little snow is okay, too much of it is troublesome. Worst when the snow melts followed by freezing condition. N0 doubt that snow brings nice memories and fun , I recalled the first time I have ever seen snow. I was so excited and happy, the snow fall made me smile from ear to ear, I even shared the joy with my late mother.

This year, we have had early snow fall.. to this date... there are plenty of snow. I like the "air" during the snow fall. The lights are just perfect somehow it seems to me life comes to a rest. The silence were amazingly peaceful.

We got our life Christmas tree on Friday evening. Buy and also donate from the Icelandic rescue team, we got a small Icelandic Pinus mugo. Last years were trees from Norway and Denmark.

So many to choose from, local and foreign

That's our chistmas tree for this year.

Seltjarnanes.

It is pronounce as Sel- tyar -nar- nes, is the smallest municipality, situated southwest of iceland. It's only neighbour is Reykjavik.The population is about four thousand and six hundred people. Seltjarnanes is very popular place for photographers and also for bird watchers.

One of the popular landmark is Grótta and it´s lighthouse. Grótta is actually a tiny island off the coast accessible by foot only during low tide. There are few lakes in this area, they are bird santuary. These lakes have limited access during nesting season.

Seltjarnarnes is an ideal place for strolling by foot or bicycle. Path are made for easy access to and form Reykjavik. One can have a good stroll from Nauthólsvik beach in Reykjavik.

I was searching for topics on Mind and came across this. Very interesting indeed. A friend of mine told me that her husband is the one who is experiencing the cravings and nausea feelings. That was many years back.

As a women and a mother of three, I am "glad" that men experience it too. Not all man but some, that is good enough. I wish they too, experience labour pain.

Life is just wonderful and full of wonders, We really don't know what our mind can do to us, where our mind can take us. Without it, we become veggie... or dead.

In time like this, that is winter weather, I dislike. The sun rises at around ten in the morning and sets again before five o'clock in the evening. The days will get shorter everyday right up to the 21st of December.

Since September, we have been having rain and wind so frequently. Heavy dark clouds covers the sky so often that I think it can cause depression to human. My in house plants are looking sad already. I really hope they are strong enough to live until I can place them outside, during summer.

Now, I am missing my birth country, my home.....Malaysia. I am missing the warmth of sun shine, I am missing the smell of leaves and grass and food... oh.. yes.. .food. I am missing the language that I so often hear, I am missing the familiar faces of Malaysian. I am missing my friends, I am missing my family, I am missing EVERYTHING ABOUT MALAYSIA.

It has been a gloomy weather here. Some pictures I took during last few weeks

Unflavoured natural skyr is white in colour, soft, sour and somewhat "dry" in its texture( because of calcium )and is quite difficult to swallow.It tase almost like yogurt but drier. To give it flavour, skyr is whipped with cream or milk. Sugar can be added besides fresh fruits fruit compote or cereal.

I, usually use milk with some brown sugar in my skyr. If, I want extra flavour, I'll use blue berry sauce. It taste so good!! It's perfect for breakfast and lunch or anytime of the day.

In Iceland, you can buy skyr easily. Cheapest place to buy is Bonus Supermarket.

Winter In Reykjavik

So winter is officially here. Along with it, it brings not only snow but storm too.

Winter, snow and stormy weather, they take away the smile especially now that the economy is under heavy dark clouds. The nights will stay longer everyday until the 21st of December. Cold, lasts until the spring greets us at our windows Most of the time, the cold last longer until summer.

25th of October is the first day of winter according to the Icelandic calender. This day, is being celebrated in Reykjavik. It has been celebrated for the past 7 years. Free admission or minimum fee into listed art gallery's , museums , swimming pool and also free boat rides to Videy . Warm Icelandic lamb soup were served just by Skólavörðustíg for the public.

I however, prefer to stay home and enjoy my homemade soup in a warm and comfortable condition.

The darkest day in Iceland. Besides the weather, the economy is also under a gloomy cloud. The ISK fell so much within weeks. Today, it fell almost 12 points. This is really not a good time to travel outside of Iceland. Tourist have the advantage of visiting Iceland. We in Iceland are suffering the consequences. Food are expensive, fuel price are sold at about 177 ISK per liter.. ohh well everything is high priced.

Winter like Autumn

Looks like our annual autumn family photo session by the lake Þingvallavatn is not a success. The place was almost covered with snow. I wanted autumn colours, not winter. The lake and the valley looked so wintry and cold because of snow.

In this picture is a view of snow top mountain, Mount Skjlbreidur(broad shield) seen from Lake Thingvallavatn. It is a volcanic mountain standing at 1,060meters high and 300meters in diameter.

Well, I hope next year would be better.

First Snow Fall this Autumn

Few hours ago we had our very first snow fall in Reykjavik. Its early arrival. The leaves of the trees are not fully bloomed with autumn colours. Autumn is still progressing.

I think, we are going to have a long cold winter. I also feel that we are going to have the most snow fall this winter.

I was really looking forward for good autumn colours but am disappointed. The weather here has been rather unfriendly. We have had storm hitting us days after days bringing rain and cold.. brrrrr. Although it does get calm but it does not stay calm long enough.

The leaves are not turning yellow much but most of them have turned dark, dead or dry because of the wind. The weather is forecast to lasts until next week. I guess, we will not be going for an autumn tour to Thingvellir at all.

Icelandic sheep are the decendents of the old domestic sheep of Norway called Spelsau. The sheeps are brought here by the Vikings. They have been bred in harsh environment for many thousand years, which turns them into quite an effeciant grazing animal.
Here in Iceland, sheep are bred mostly for meat. They are fed only grass or hay. In the summer, the sheep and lamb are released into the nature to roam free. This natural feeding gives the meat a very distinctive flavour and are considered a gourmet meat. After free roaming for couple of months, the sheep are rounded up by the famers. The rounding up or Réttir in Icelandic is a huge social events, it starts early September to early October.

Réttir, is one of the many reasons why you should visit Iceland.

Autumn in Iceland

I love the colours of autumn. The colours are so uplifting. This year Iceland is experiencing surprisingly good summer. September's, temperature has been around 12 to 14°C with plenty of rain of course. The rain can be too much at times. ..but well I prefer rain than snow.

The plants are already slowly turning reddish and yellowish. Everyday as I look out through my window, I noticed more changes. This picture below was taken on the morning of 11th. Is was so beautiful!

One or two more weeks the leave would be fully Autumn coloured. Later on we went to a place called Heiðmörk. It is a municipal conservation area of about 2.800 acres. Here also is where Reykjavik city gets is fresh water from. Heiðmörk is also a popular place for recreational. Horse riding is also popular here.

These are some picture I took today while spending our short evening there.

I saw 2 full blooming lupines at this time of the year.

One of it is the largest I ever saw. It is as big as my feet. I wish I knew their names.

Now I hope to be able to make it this year to Thingvellir for the Autumn colours.
